Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award has been running at Hadleigh for a number of years now. Students can start at Bronze level in Year 10 where they undertake a series of activities through the year. Each student is responsible for organising and completing their Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections. Training for the fourth section of expeditions is carried out after school and over one weekend. Following this there are two expeditions in the Suffolk area where students are self-sufficient for two days and one night. On the completion of the Bronze Award students are able to continue to Silver level in year 11. Expeditions are more demanding at this level and this year we are visiting the Peak District National Park to complete their Expedition phase.
Success & completion rates
The scheme has been very successful at Hadleigh High school and since 2012 we have seen the number of pupils taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award increase dramatically. To date, we now have 6 pupils who have received Gold, 132 Silver and 407 pupils who have received their bronze. The current year 10 group we have 50 students registered with the award.
