Guidance for Parents

Welcome to this webpage on how best to support your child/children in their home learning.

A new curriculum has been put in place to streamline the setting of work and to address the long-term feasibility of home learning whilst the school remains closed. This has been formulated to reflect the time allocation of the different subjects in the curriculum and each day will be comprised of:

  • 30 minutes of personal reading (please see the reading list for Key Stage 3 students along with a selection of PDF texts below).
  • Two subjects per day - each subject will set up to 90 minutes’ worth of work.
  • 30 minutes of PE from the core PE google classroom ideas.
  • 30 minutes of extra English, Maths or Science via the Tassomai or Century learning platform (please see instructions for how your child/children can log onto these on-line platforms below).
  • A 10-minute vocab challenge for students in Y10 who study French or German.

This work can be attempted in any order to aid situations where more than one child needs access to IT. It can also be supplemented by tasks outlined in the PIXL documents (please see the documents listed below).

All work will be communicated to students via Google Classroom and it will be set by 8.30am in line with the new timetable for your child’s year group (please see the timetable for your child/children’s year group below).

Students must complete the work on the same day as it is set and submit their completed work via Google Classroom by 9am the following day. Teachers will check that work has been submitted and record it on Go4schools so that you can still monitor your child’s progress. Each child will also be allocated a link member of staff who will monitor how much work they have completed.  Your child’s link member of staff will then email you each week with an update.

If you have any problems accessing any of these platforms then please email support@hadleighhigh.net

Thank you for your support. Stay safe and well.

Reading Lists

Your child/children have been asked to undertake 30 minutes of personal reading each day. Reading develops vocabulary and writing. It helps students to build social skills and aids them in understanding and processing complex ideas. Reading also expands their ability to build knowledge overall – not just in subjects like English, but in all subjects.

Please find below a list of recommended books. Some of them can be downloaded for free directly from here.
