Health and Social Care

Prior Learning Most students will have had no formal exposure to Health and Social Care before arriving at secondary school.
Key Stage 4

During this course, you will learn about a wide variety of aspects from the health, social care and early years provision sectors. These include access to the services and care needs as well as personal development and relationships

 

The students follow the OCR Cambridge Nationals Level 1 & 2 course for Health and Social Care. This covers 3 units:

 

R032: Principles of care in health and social care settings - 40% 

This unit is assessed by an external exam.

 

In this unit you will learn about the key topics that are important when caring for and protecting people in health and social care.

 

Topics include:

Topic 1: The rights of service users 

Topic 2: Person- centered values

Topic 3: Effective communication

Topic 4: Protecting service users and service providers

 

R033: Supporting individuals through life events - 30%

This unit is assessed internally by a Set Assignment, and moderated externally by the exam board.

 

In this unit you will learn about growth and development through the life stages. You will also learn how to understand the needs of individuals who have been affected by life events and how to recommend support to meet their needs. 

 

Topics include:

Topic 1: Life stages

Topic 2: Impacts of life events

Topic 3: Sources of support

 

 

R035: Health promotion campaigns - 30%

This unit is assessed internally by a Set Assignment, and moderated externally by the exam board.

 

In this unit you will research health promotion campaigns and learn about their benefits to society. You will also plan and deliver your own health promotion campaign

 

Topics include:

Topic 1: Current public health issues and their impact on society

Topic 2: Factors influencing health

Topic 3: Planning and creating health promotion campaign

Topic 4: Delivery and evaluation of your health promotion campaign.
